Abstract
The structural optimization program BEHSAZ that uses PCFEAP program as the analyzer and CONMIN program as the optimizer is introduced in this paper. The formulation of the optimal design problem according to AISC Specifications is described. The sensitivity analysis implementation is explained. Various schemes for interfacing the analyzer and the optimizer are compared, and the effectiveness of constraint linearization and use of inverse design variables is studied. The results of testing the program with a 10-bar truss are presented in detail.
