Net-shape rhenium fabrication by EB-PVD

Abstract

Electron beam-physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) process was described as a one step process for the cost-effective fabrication of rhenium net shape components. The components fabricated using the process had superior microstructure and required no surface machining. The properties of rhenium, problems associated with existing methods of rhenium fabrication, the EB-PVD process and its application in fabricating plate, coating graphite balls and tubes were also discussed.
