Abstract

Although the authors recognize that this combined procedure is demanding in expertise, microsurgical technique, and operative time, they believe it provides the logical solution to the complex problem of the young patient with femoral neck non-union and avascular necrosis of the femoral head. It addresses both the biomechanical and the biologic aspects of this situation and has so far yielded promising results. They believe that use of this technique in selected patients, far from being a two-stage arthroplasty, constitutes another step toward solving the unsolved fracture.
