Abstract

A novel cesium aluminophosphate, CsAl2PO6 of pollucite structure was crystallized under mild hydrothermal conditions using reactive Cs, Al and P components. The CsAl2PO6 has a cubic unit cell with the lattice constant ao = 13.54 A ̊ and with cell volume of 2480Å3. The new CsAl2PO6 phase is potentially useful as a cesium host in phosphatic waste forms of high-level nuclear wastes.
