    Abstract

    Theoretical performance signatures for the dual polarized transmission of M-state quadrature-amplitude-modulated (M-QAM) signals over dispersive multipath fading channels is derived, showing that for the assumed minimum and non-minimum phase propagation models, cross-coupled interference exhibits noiselike behavior and affects digital radio outage in direct relation to its power level. The authors then propose a baseband structure that is capable of adaptively mitigating cross-polarized interference and affords performance signatures close to that achieved in singularly polarized M-QAM digital radio systems.
