Permissible symmetries of multi-domain configurations in perovskite ferroelectric crystals

Abstract

A report on the permissible symmetries of multi-domain configurations in perovskite ferroelectric crystals, was presented. It is found that only limited configurations are practically realizable, although many possible symmetries were derived using the statistical method. Domain structures produced by the application of external electric and/or mechanical fields that allow for the formation of two-dimensional domain superlattices were described in terms of effective group symmetry.
