Abstract

This chapter reviews the history of piezoelectric materials in the following order: quartz, Rochelle salt, barium titanate, lead zirconate titanate, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT), lithium niobate/tantalate, relaxor ferroelectrics, PVDF, Pb-free piezoelectrics and composites. The detailed performance in conjunction with transducer applications is described.
