Power transmission coefficients based on wavenumber processing of experimental modal analysis data for bolted honeycomb sandwich panels

Abstract

Experimental modal analysis data acquired for two coplanar rectangular honeycomb sandwich panels bolted along a lap joint is post-processed to compute power transmission coefficients. Frequency response functions over dense rectangular grids on each panel are converted to wavenumber space and filtered using pass-bands centered about the free bending wavenumbers at one-third octave band center frequencies. The wavenumber amplitudes are integrated over each band in each panel (effectively integrating over all possible angles of incidence), and used to compute power transmission coefficients. The measured coefficients are compared to standard Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) approximations used for line and point connections, agreeing better with those for a line connection.
