RADIATIVE HEAT TRANSFER FROM WALL FLAMES.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the desire to improve the estimates of radiative fraction of the total heat transfer in the region above the pyrolysis front of vertical wall fire. The radiative fraction varies with the height from the base of the flames and it can be more than 85% of the total flame-to-surface heat transfer under certain conditions. Its accurate estimate is therefore critically important for predicting fire growth and flame spread rates. The available data on heat transfer to the wall region above the pyrolysis zone have been taken for liquid-saturated wick fires, for linear gas burner fires next to a wall, and for vertical plate samples of plastics and wood.
