Abstract

Satellite infra-red imagery for the five winters of 1973-77 is analysed via previously developed cloud vortex classification system. The occurrence of substantial and widespread precipitation anomalies in southern Australia for these winters is found to be strongly related to the longitudinal and latitudinal variations in satellite-observed cyclonic activity, particularly with respect to cyclo-genesis over the Indian Ocean. -Author
