Abstract

Emergency medicine, now firmly established as a specialty in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Hong Kong, continues to develop as a new field in other countries. The success of recent international conferences on emergency medicine shows the need for the global community to continue to share emergency medicine research and knowledge as each country broadens its experiences in the field. The Internet offers a new environment for the exchange of information among the emergency medicine community. It also may serve as a potential tool for aiding in the development of emergency medicine in various countries where it is still in early stages of becoming a recognized specialty.
