Reverse osmosis integrity monitoring

Abstract

Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes are becoming an important technology for drinking water and wastewater reuse applications. Ensuring the integrity of RO systems is important for the expanded use of this technology. Several methods have been proposed and applied over the last decade for this purpose. This paper summarizes the different existing and emerging technologies for ensuring RO system integrity and presents illustrative pilot testing results for the type of data that can be obtained from these tests. A systematic approach to monitoring integrity for a full scale RO plant throughout its lifecycle is also presented.
