Abstract

Alzheimer's disease is a form of degenerative neurological disease characterized by severe cognitive and psychosocial impairment. Cognitive interventions appear to be a viable supplement to pharmacological management, which has little long-term impact on the progression of the disease. Non-pharmacological interventions, are currently investigated as means to enhance everyday cognitive and adaptive/social functioning. Computerbased programs afford greater ease and reduced cost of administration, features that are often critical for patient enrollment and compliance. Here we discuss potential advantages of such programs for improving quality of life and patientcaregiver daily interactions and suggest optimal procedures to be followed during linguistic and cultural adaptation of the Savion program in Greek.
