Abstract

Reinforced concrete lifeline systems subjected to seismic effects are analyzed by a combined finite difference-finite element method. System parameters including embeddment depth ratio, structural shape, soil cohesion, analysis type and frequency factor of a seismic excitation are considered in the study, and their effects on structural responses are evaluated. Based on the obtained results and methodology described in part I of this paper, transfer functions and design spectra are derived for the seismic design of lifeline systems.
