Abstract

In near-diffusion-limited reactions the apparent selectivity of reactive intermediates measured in intermolecular competition experiments is a function of the intrinsic selectivity and the ratio of the reaction rate to the diffusion controlled rate. This dependence can be used to test for diffusion limited reactions as demonstrated by measurements of isotope effects for CH insertion of phosphorylnitrenes.
