Shear axial modes in a PCTSCM VII. Reflection spectral holes

Abstract

Piezoelectric, continuously twisted, structurally chiral materials (PCTSCMs) exhibit the circular Bragg phenomenon in a narrow frequency regime, when irradiated by a normally incident shear wave. The reflectance spectrum of a bilayer comprising two identical PCTSCM layers twisted with respect to each other by 90° is shown here to display a spectral hole, when the layers are relatively thin. As the layers become thicker, the reflection spectral hole vanishes, and a much thinner spectral transmission hole appears.
