Simulation on the flow field of the air-and-sieve cleaning device of a peanut harvester

Abstract

Cleaning is one important function of a peanut harvester. In order to study the effect of variations in main design parameters of the cleaning chamber of a peanut harvester, flow simulation function built in SolidWorks was applied to simulate the air flow field based on the different angles of fan (15°, 30°, 45°), air speed at the outlet of the fan (10 m/s, 15 m/s), and the distance from the top of the chamber to the top surface of the sieve (400mm, 500mm). Simulation results indicated that the fan angle of 30°resulted in the best cleaning effectiveness. Increasing and/or decreasing this angle would reduce the air speed right above the top surface of the sieve. This speed reduction will then reduce the cleaning rate. Further experimental verifications are needed.
