Abstract

Recent torsional oscillator measurements of solid 4He in Vycor glass suggest the existence of a supersolid state of matter below 175mK. We have obtained preliminary data of the specific heat of solid helium down to 80mK. No sharp feature at the onset temperature is observable to within 1%. We are currently working towards extending our measurement to lower temperatures.
