Structure identification of a new superconducting phase

Abstract

A new cuprate with Bi layers, which has a c-centered orthorhombic unit cell with lattice parameters of a = 5.39 angstroms, b = 23.46 angstroms, c = 33.96 angstroms. The structure exhibited superconductivity at about 45 K. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was performed to identify the structure present in the phase. A series of electron diffraction patterns (EDPs) were obtained along different zone-axes by titling the crystal around reciprocal space. From the reconstruction of the three-dimensional reciprocal lattice on these EDPs, the crystal was found to have a c-centered orthorhombic cell.
