Abstract

Patellar instability in skeletally immature patients presents a unique set of issues. These patients often represent the most active age group and conservative management is unpredictable. The presence of open physes creates challenges when discussing surgical management. While there is little research behind treatment options, procedures exist that are friendly to the growth plates and it appears as though more conventional reconstruction options can safely recreate an anatomically placed medial patellofemoral ligament.
