Synthesis and characterization of hexagonally packed mesoporous tantalum oxide thin film

Abstract

A mesoporous thin film form of tantalum oxide, a wide band gap and semiconductor ceramic, is prepared by templating a tantalum silica precursor (tantalum ethoxide) with pluronic P123 copolymer (EO20PO70EO20; M.W. 5800) using sol-gel-based spin casting approach. The obtained crystalline phase was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements at - 196 °C and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. Such form of tantalum oxide is believed to have potential applications in novel devices such as solar cells and photocatalysts.
