Synthesis of PbTe nanoboxes using a solvothermal technique

A solvothermal route to fabricate PbTe alloy nanoboxes with almost cubic shape by controlling the synthesis conditions and using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a stabilizer was described. The standard spectrum of the bulk face-centered-cubic alloy PbTe was shown to illustrate the good match with the as-prepared powder not only in position, but also in relative intensity. It was clearly shown that there is no other crystalline phase besides PbTe. The experimental results show that both surfactant PEG and the volume ratio of ethanol to water play key roles in the formation of the nanoboxes.
