The coherent potential approximation applied to a system with long-range potential

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The coherent potential approximation (CPA) is expected to be more reliable in long-range systems than in systems with only nearest neighbor interactions. This increase in reliability is studied for a 1D binary random alloy model with interactions decaying as 1 r2, for which the CPA equations can be obtained in closed form. The CPA spectral density obtained reflects the major gaps and the coarse structure of the actual spectral density, but yet it is not as reliable as the CPA for the 3D model with only nearest neighbor interactions.
