The electrochemical behaviour of coal pyrite 1. Effects of mineral source and composition

Abstract

The dissolution in perchloric acid of four coal pyrites, from different sources and of various compositions, was studied using electrochemical measurements. The processes taking place on the coal pyrite surfaces are limited by surface reaction rather than by aqueous diffusion. The mode of reaction at the coal pyrite surface also depends on the composition of the coal pyrite. It could be concluded from the results that pyrite removal from coal is possible by aqueous leaching in acidic conditions.
