The purpose of this chapter is to examine the negative online experiences among maltreated children and adolescents. Drawing on research from a variety of disciplines such as psychology, education, social work, sociology, and computer science, this chapter is organized into seven sections. The chapter draws on multidisciplinary qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies from psychology, sociology, social work, and criminology. Furthermore, this chapter reviews literature utilizing cross-sectional, longitudinal, qualitative, and quantitative research methodologies to describe the negative online experiences of maltreated children and adolescents.
