Abstract

This paper will focus on one of the more profound and, in many ways, facinating (and under-studied) themes in successfully implementing new technologies such as GIS: the role of organizational politics. Although anecdotal evidence and case histories abound which link politics to both GIS implementation success and failure, we are lacking a thorough understanding of the impact of corporate politics in the GIS implementation process. In effect, there is still no organizing framework that has been advanced to suggest the ways in which politics can help or hinder the implementation of GIS. -from Authors
