Abstract
Parallel-plate waveguides, bounded by perfectly conducting planes and filled with dielectric thin-film helicoidal bianisotropic mediums (TFHBMs), are shown to support guided wave propagation with characteristics dependent on the direction of propagation. As this feature emerges from the local anisotropy of TFHBMs, optical interconnects fabricated with TFHBMs and other sculptured thin films (STFs) may offer efficient use of semiconductor real-estate for integrated optoelectronics.
