Abstract
Turkey's energy production and consumption have been increasing and this pattern is expected to continue well into the next century because the country's industrialisation, population and per capita energy usage are all growing. Supply and demand studies show that current resources cannot fulfill the demand, so alternative energy resources are needed. Among the many alternatives, nuclear option is the only one not currently being exploited. However, current long term electricity program includes plans for 2000 MWe of nuclear generation by 2010.
