Abstract

Leibniz was very interested in developing techniques for the solution of differential equations. In 1690 he elaborated two manuscripts in which he employed the technique of separating variables. Thus he had to evaluate the logarithm of negative numbers. The present article consists mainly of a critical edition, English translation, and a commentary on these two interesting manuscripts.
