Two-Phase Coherent Equilibrium in Multicomponent Alloys

Abstract

The two-phase coherent equilibrium equations are derived for a multicomponent system with both substitutional and interstitial elements. The equations are based on the hypothesis that the Gibbs energy of the coherent state is obtained by simply adding the elastic energy to the Gibbs energy of the unstressed state. In addition the coherent bcc - fcc equilibrium in the binary Fe-C and the ternary Fe-Mn-C systems are calculated assuming simple geometry and applying assessed thermodynamic functions.
