Abstract

This paper presents a problem on sensitivity determination - one of the crucial early problems that must be tackled in the development of an advanced intelligent flaw detection system. An intelligent flaw detection system is defined as a computerized testing machine that can be used for data acquisition, flaw location, and flaw classification analysis. Ultrasonic inspection reliability depends in many cases on the correct choice of testing sensitivity. Computer implementation allows one to automatically determine the optimal sensitivity for both the flaw searching process, and the flaw evaluation process. A sample algorithm and experimental results are presented. A PDP 11/05 minicomputer is used for the automated sensitivity determination.
