Volar locking plate + dorsal-Ulnar plate

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

With the advent of locking volar plates, many distal radius fractures, including those with comminution, are able to be adequately stabilized from a volar approach only. However, some fractures require supplemental fixation to adequately stabilize and prevent escape of the dorsal-ulnar fragment, and with it, subluxation of the carpus. Additionally, some fractures require more support of the articular surface than a volar plate can provide on its own. This chapter will describe treatment of distal radius fractures using the combination of a volar locking plate and a dorsal-ulnar plate to appropriately stabilize the dorsal-ulnar aspect of the distal radius.
