Abstract

This current research attempts a further test of Kitschelt's notion of political opportunity structures. Using case-studies of peace movements in four Western democracies, the influence of input opportunity structures and output opportunity structures on the strategies and impacts of various peace movements is assessed. The article concludes with Kitschelt that such a conceptual device goes far in explaining national variations in social protest movements.
